If you the baseball gods allowed you to choose, would you rather start an inning with one out and a runner on second, or no outs and no one on?

Depends on where they are in the line-up. Speaking of "depends", how IS Ted Williams these days?

Yeah. I had a video client once make a comparison between a kid in diapers and a very famous singer who was about to die....

I never liked the joke then either.

Any chance we could get back on topic?

Assume the whole game will be played this way, every inning you either start no one on, no one out, or a runner on second, and one out.

    Which do would you prefer?

    Take the runner, every time.

If you would rather have the inning start with nobody on, nobody out, you are assuming there'll be lead off extra base hit (or a single, walk, error, with the runner taking second on a SB or error)

Give me two cracks to knock him in every time.
